Himachal Pradesh: Suicidal bridge finally gets government attention
DHARAMSALA: A bridge over the Bear River connecting Kangra and Hamirpur districts has finally got the government attention after around 30 years of its inception. This bridge has earned a bad name for suicides as many people have jumped from it to end their life.
Government has no data for number of suicides but witnessing frequent incidents they have finally started erecting barricades on both its sides so that nobody could commit suicide from here.

“We are going to erect this fencing to avoid the suicides from this point. Moreover, this was not the only purpose it will fulfill while in addition to that it will also protect the river from getting polluted as commuters also throw garbage and other materials easily in the river” said Sandeep Kumar, sitting deputy commissioner of Kangra district. Kumar belongs to Nadaun area which is adjacent to this bridge.
People of Bharoli and Nadaun area have expressed gratitude to the administration for taking this step. They said that on an average five cases of suicides happens here every year.
Incidents of suicides have also given tough tasks for the adjacent village heads. Whenever such an incident of suicide happened they had to involve themselves to recover the body of the deceased.
